What is PRP?
PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. Our blood contains specific plasma rich growth factors that help in wound healing and tissue regeneration. For many years platelet rich plasma or PRP treatment has been used to augment other medical therapies with its ability to promote wound healing and more recently with its aesthetic and skin-rejuvenating effects with natural results.
The role of PRP treatment in hair restoration is to prolong and stimulate inactive hair follicles into an active growth phase.
How is PRP hair treatment performed?
First, approximately 20ml of blood is collected from your vein. It’s very similar to having a routine blood test performed at any diagnostic centre. The blood collected is spun in a centrifuge which separates the plasma from the red blood cells. This plasma, rich in platelets and growth factors, is then injected into the scalp at the level of the hair follicles. Your scalp is cleansed thoroughly and an antiseptic is applied before injecting. The PRP is injected into the scalp using a very fine needle. Multiple injections are given at approximately half inch intervals over the area of thinning hair.
Who is PRP hair treatment for?
- If you’ve noticed your hairline creeping backwards, your widow’s peak becoming more obvious or just a few extra hairs on your pillow or in your hairbrush, then PRP hair treatment is for you.
- PRP hair treatment works for people whom have moderate or intense hair thinning
- Both Males and Females
- Best for anyone aged between 18 – 60
- Post Hair Transplant
What are the advantages of PRP treatment for hair loss?
- Simple, non-surgical procedure
- Multiple injections
- Safe and reliable results
- No downtime
- Natural looking end results
How long does each session last?
The whole procedure takes approximately 40-60 minutes.
Does the treatment hurt?
It is a simple, extremely safe and natural treatment with a minimal discomfort.
Additionally, there is virtually no downtime after the procedure. However, immediately after the treatment, few people experience some minor bruising, swelling and redness at the injection sites. This reduces significantly within 2-3 hours. You can go on with their daily lives straight away with confidence. Because as PRP treatment involves your own blood, there is no risk of communicable diseases from others.
What type of aftercare is required?
The beauty of the treatment is that no aftercare is required. We just recommend you do not wash your hair for 12 hours after the treatment so you get the best result from PRP hair treatment.
How quickly can I resume my normal activities?
You can resume normal activities the same day of the treatment. It is not necessary to miss work but just avoid heavy physical activity for 12 hours post the treatment.
How many sessions do I need?
We recommend a minimum number of 6-8 sessions for a significant improvement. Regular sessions every 4 weeks give optimal results. If you follow the treatment plan recommended by our Doctor you will achieve great results from the treatment.
How long will it take before results can be seen from PRP hair treatment?
Results are normally seen within the first two months. Less shedding of hair has been observed in one month with peak effect coming at 4 months to 6 months.
What is the PRP Treatment cost?
Price depends on the individual requirements. Following your detailed consultation with our dermatologist you will receive your personal quote.
